sad

I'm feeling sad... I think maybe even sad enough to take a short blogging break.
There will be no Bookshelf Tuesday today - I have some lovely books, but I have lost my enthusiasm.
Why? Well this morning I was greeted by my first "bad" comment. It was left by someone about one of my Illustration Friday drawings - it just said "I think it's crap". Now I am not totally naive, I understand that by blogging I put myself out there for others to comment, however, I would think that if someone doesn't like something (and they are entitled to) and take the time to write, they could at least offer some constructive criticism. I also believe they could stand behind their words so I know who they are - maybe there is something to be learned from them? Instead, I have been left with a nasty taste in my mouth, and a sad gloom. You may think I am being too precious - maybe I am - maybe I need to have a tougher shell - but unfortunately I don't - never have really. So, to try and wipe away this nastiness I am going to go and enjoy the beautiful day we are having here. I'm not sure when I will be back, hopefully not long....

Sam, youre anything but crap! Youre crafty, funny, generous, creative, loyal and a computer nerd (who doesnt love a computer nerd??). You shouldnt let one person stop you or slow you down.

I think you're great. I added you to my bloglines as soon as I came across your blog.

I feel kinda sorry for the heel that left you that comment. What kind of person trolls the web leaving anonymous negative comments? Ugh.

That comment doesn't reflect on you, and it won't influence how we feel about you. It only reflects on the loser that left the comment.

Exactly what futuregirl said - this doesn't reflect on you - it reflects on them. I really like your drawings and reading your blog. I hope you feel happier soon.

I understand how you feel - enjoy your day!

Don't let this get you down, you're far better than crap!!! Enjoy your day and come back to blogging soon. :D

A sisterly message (and remember thin skins are genetic) not to let that cowardly (and nasty) girl in cyber space ruin your creative work. Just spit that bad taste out and indulge in all the positive comments you have received and in some creative inspiration from the few books you own!

Sorry for that cloud.
Wiping out a nasty taste in the mouth is easier said than done... hope you feel better soon!

I feel incredibly sad. Sad that someone can impact on the happiness of so many people by leaving an ill tempered message.

But I also feel determined. Determined that the cowardly individual concerned will not wield such power as to take away the joy you gain from posting your blogs, and the joy so many of us get from reading them.

My grandfather (and I know you thought he was pretty good too Sam) had a great motto, Noli nothis permittere te terere - don't let the bastards get you down. And don't forget the very wise Kaz Cooke who, along with many of your blog commenters said "when faced with unexplained negativity, remember - it's not about you,it's about them". We can not let this weak and withered person take control. Your creative talents were meant to be shared.

Read the comments on this post over and over and gain strength from all the positive energy - it is far stronger than the negative.

I didn't mean to write an essay, but your blogs make me feel like you live across the road (just like old times) rather than across many oceans and I would miss them.

So here we are, chanting for more (think rock concert, foot stomping style) - Sam-my, Sam-my, Sam-my, Sam-my, Sam-my, Sam-my....

Samantha-
I come to your blog sometimes two times a day to see if you've updated. I love your work! You have such passion for what you do.. and really, that's all it takes to make a good craftswoman.

Don't let the bastards get you down. And come back soon... you'll be missed!

I feel so angry on your behalf. How dare some anonymous twit upset you like that.

Please don't let them win - you are a regular must read on my list (and the list of many others judging by all the comments here). Don't our high opinions of you count for more that one eejit who wasn't even prepared to put their name to their view?

You may not have a tough shell, but you have a lot of courage to confront them in public like you've done. Three cheers to you for not just deleting and slinking off feeling awful!!

your illustrations are anything but crap. and anyone who is as rude to leave such a message will certainly be paid back ten-fold within their own lives.

Sam,

Your work is fabulous.

I'm sorry you're feeling sad, it's near impossible not to let external bullshit get to you sometimes...

I hope you're enjoying your day, and that you return when you're ready and feeling great!

Hi Sam! Your work is always super awesome and your stories are very entertaining. Please don't let that one nasty comment get you down. I don't understand why would someone take the time to be just that nasty. Anyway, please don't leave us, we really like you and your work and your words =)

I love your blog and your work is wonderul! Those kinds of people must just be so unhappy to want to spread it around. I am thin skinned to and get my feelings hurt quite a lot, but it really does say more about that person than about you. They just have amazingly bad taste not to like your work!! Feel better and don't be away too long...

There are a lot of really, really sad people out there. Don't let them make you sad too! And they are truely in the minority! But I know, it makes you feel kind of weird and it's scary.

I'm sorry you feel this way but I hope you don't believe this comment about your work, because it's not true. I hope to read you again. Keep on the good work!

an anonymous blogger left a nasty comment, hey ?

How surprising.

Bullies & cowards. Yell out an insult and hide behind a tree - how childish.

Easier said than done, but try not to waste your tears on them.

aaahh how dreadful that someone should leave a comment that wasn't gushing with compliments...the collage really wasn't all that though was it, I mean you have potential but you're not there yet. Maybe you should do an introduction to art course. Keep it up though as you make me smile x
