it's my birthday and I'll give away if I want to...

UPDATE: we are back, and had a lovely time but I have come back with a dreaded lurgy, so please bear with me while I convalesce - back soon.

Yes folks it is another year since I celebrated my fabulous birth - thanks Mum and Dad! So, far it has been a wonderful day, with breakfast and stories in bed provided by Miss L. R gave me two new books, The Passionate Shopper by Marion von Alderstein and Bags: A Lexicon of Style by Valerie Steele and Laird Sorrell. Me thinks the boy is going soft in the head, encouraging my materialistic consumption like that, but I ain't complaining!

Then a sumptuous lunch of lemon risotto and a glass of champagne followed by profiteroles covered in chocolate sauce with my girl friends. Talk about rolling out of there!

Followed by some browsing, and only a small amount of purchasing, just this, this and this, sort of a present to myself, you know!

Cards in the mail, and even a surprise present to be found in the spare room - getting sneaky in your old age Mum!!

Now Miss L and I are happily playing with her latest Felicity Wishes outfits and waiting for R to come home to cook us up a feast - something he has proven to be very good at.

I like my birthday's to go on as long as possible - must be the Leo in me. So, on Friday morning Miss L, R and myself are heading up to the Alpine Country for 3 nights. Fresh local food, frolics in the snow, and cruising the local shops. Something for everyone.

Finally, because I like to give as much as recieve I am having an early giveaway this month. Shrouded in mystery, the winner will receive a goodie bag created uniquely for them. So leave me a comment about what you like on your birthday. When we get back from our little break I will draw a winner. Good Luck - and Mary this even means you - craftiness not required!

P.s. I haven't heard from all the winners of last month's giveaway, so check below to see if you won.

P.p.s I also still have some magazines up for swapping so check here to see if you would like some.

Glad to hear you are having such a wonderful birthday. Hope one of those cards in the mail was ours. Miss Z has also been enjoying her felicity wishes doll thanks to a great early birthday present Aunty Sam. Now, I want to enter the competition as my birthday 2 weeks ago was absolutely lousy as I was feeling sick and spent 1 and a half hours of it taking my husband to the airport so he could sit in qantas club and fly business class to some really nice hotel for a so-called business meeting while I got to go out to dinner with two ratty kids who really didn't care it was my bithday except to loudly say how old I had become. At least I convinced them to go to Red Rock rather than Macca's. Soooo... I think I should win the competition because it is unfair that the little sister gets dudded on her birthday while big sis has such a totally great time plus a weekend away! Not sure if I will win but it does make me feel better to debrief all that stuff.

Happy Birthday to you!!!! It sounds like you had a great day and the next few days sound fabulous. On my birthday, the best would be on a week-end day (no work). I like to go for lunch with my best friend and then my husband always takes me some where special for supper. I'm not too hard to please.

A very happy birthday to you. On my birthday I really love presents that reflect 'me', but most of all I really love the day being all about everything and everybody I love - good food, lots of love, not having to lift a finger!

Happy birthday! I hope you have a great time in the snow. Celebrate your birthday as long as you like. We always have a birthday week (or even month!), the birthday boy/girl gets to call the shots on a few chosen outings and the birthday cards stay on display the whole time. For my birthday, I'm quite happy to get a voucher from Mr J and buy my own gift. However, he always buys me a surprise (he's a good gift-giver and writes the best cards). A surprise is my favourite birthday treat!

Well happy ol' birthday and how glorious to be up high in the best ski season in living memory. Hope you are having an appropriately frosty time!

Birthdays seem to be about new books these days - a kind of preparation for the craft projects of the coming year. So I like sitting down and looking through new books and pretending I will have more time and patience than I really do and will be tackling several crafts I have as yet not managed to fit into the schedule.

And my canny family keep an eye out through the year for unusual materials for me to plan those projects around - a skein of hand spun alpaca, a set of hand forged iron buttons, a box of sewing notions picked up at a market. So there is a spot of fantasising about how I'm going to use them too.

Oh and I think I forgot to mention the eating and the drinking? And the seeing friends and family if at all possible? The next one is the big 40 so I'm planning a return to pre-child form...perhaps a large dinner party? Or perhaps that can stay with all the other planning and fantasising ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sam!
Hope YOUR day is the BESTEST ever!!!
On my birthday, I would LOVE a trip to my favourite spot - the St. Victor Petrogylphs in southern Saskatchewan and have a picnic on top of the hill!

Happy Birthday! What I like most on my birthday are presents in the form of books or a gc to a bookstore (lol, I'm a bookworm, what else!). That apart, I love those cute little personal cupons, the kind that say "this entitles you to one kid-free hour every day this week" or some such. Simple things - yes. But they always have the greatest impact :-)

Happy Birthday! I'm wishing it was mine again just for the presents. But maybe not to get older...
On my birthday there is nothing I like better than a surprise handmade gift plopping into my letterbox, like oh, a one of a kind Aunty Cookie doll made by the talented Whizzme - hint hint.

Hello Sami, hope you had a great bithday. Anyway, so excited that I can enter the competition. The thing that I absolutely love most about my birthday is that friends that I have not spoken with for ages will ring me on my birthday and I pretty much know with certainty that they will ring so I get so excited when they ring!!! Hope that makes sense.

I'm glad you had a good birthday!

It's been a few years since I had one that lived up to my ideals; my favourite situation involves dinner with my immediate family and my dad's parents and brother (other relatives and friends may attend, but it's just not the same without the regulars), and I've been away at university for several years in a row and unable to see the people I love until more than a month later. In some ways that's good because I can stretch my birthday out for more than a month, but in other ways it's kind of lonely.

As far as presents go, some of the best I've ever gotten have been experiences rather than material gifts. My dad, in particular (and although he's not generally the greatest shopper), has a knack for choosing things like concerts and plays that I'd like to go see even when I don't know it.

My birthday is on Christmas Eve... so I love if people remember the date and also if I am able to make a belated celebration with my friends later on, somewhere between Xmas and New Year! I love phone calls and surprise things to pamper me :)

Oh Samantha - I received the pile of magazines in today's mail and I can't believe how much you paid for postage to get them to me. I feel bad, because one magazine would have been OK with me!!!
Be watching your mailbox for something in return from me.
